The financial support from the Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation has made it possible for Johnson C. Smith University
(JCSU) to develop and implement two Information Literacy Leadership
Institutes (ILLI). The institute sessions will be held November 4-9,
2007 and February 10-15, 2008. JCSU is the official agency offering
the ILLI, and most of the ILLI activities will be held at the Hilton
Charlotte Center City in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina.
The purpose of the ILLI is to assist librarians at
Historically Black Colleges and Universities' libraries with the
development/revision of the Information Literacy Instructional
Program at their institution. The participants will have an
opportunity to learn about the Information Literacy Instruction
programs provided at four other academic libraries, including the
JCSU model for Information Literacy programs. Most importantly,
participants will spend time during the institute designing an
Information Literacy Instructional Program for their own students.
Consultations will be available during the institute addressing
principles, components, and the use of information technology in
developing an Instructional Literacy program.
Each participant has
received a scholarship that will cover all expenses to attend the
ILLI.
