Information Commons

General Information:

In January 2008, the Information Commons opened its doors to the faculty, students and staff of Johnson C. Smith University. Its primary purpose is to aid the JCSU family in the enhancement of multimedia presentations.

 

The Information Commons is located on the 2nd floor of James B. Duke Memorial Library in room 215.  The staff can be reached by phone at 371-6735.

 

Information Commons Hours:

Fall and Spring Semester Hours

Monday-Thursday 8:00am - 10:00pm

Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Saturday Closed

Sunday 2:00pm - 10:00pm

¨13 IBM ThinkCentre Desktop Computers: Core 2 Duo Processor, 2GHz; 2GB RAM; DVD-RW/CD-RW drives; with FireWire

¨8 Scanners: HP Scanjet 8300 Professional Image Scanners with up to 19,200 resolution

¨2 Digital Cameras: 1 Nikon Coolpix P5000 Digital Camera 10MP; and 1 Nikon Coolpix L12 Digital Camera 7.1MP

 

¨2 Camcorders: one MiniDV, one hard disk

 

¨3 USB Instant Mini DV to Digital

Converters – allows capture of video from camcorder to computer for editing

Microsoft Office Suite 2007—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, FrontPage, Publisher, InfoPath, etc.

Adobe Authorware 7visual authoring tool for creating rich-media e-learning applications for delivery on corporate networks, CD/DVD, and the Web

Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium — for creating interactive websites, applications, user interfaces, presentations, and other digital experiences

Easy Media Creator Suite 9— for editing, backing- up, burning and copying video, photos and music files.

Snag-It 8—create and share high quality screen captures for your presentations

Avid Xpress Proa complete professional video editing environment combining video, audio, film, encoding tools, and custom music creation software

Sound Forge 9—  digital audio editing software includes a powerful set of audio processes, tools, and effects for manipulating audio. Sound Forge software allows users to edit, record, encode, and master nearly any form of digital audio including WAV, AIFF, and MP3

 

Rules:

1.You must sign in and sign out.

2. DO NOT save files on the hard drive, they will be deleted.

3. Equipment cannot be checked out.

4. Headphones must be used when using sound.

5. No food or drinks.

6. No cell phones.

7. No socializing. (Group work is allowed for assignments only)

8. No obscene material use.

9. No horse playing.
